MightyText for Android Phones: How to send text messages from pc to phone
if you have an Android phone, the best way to do this is MightyText. MightyText is an app you install on your Android phone. You can then sign into the MightyText web app in a web browser on your computer — any computer, whether it’s running Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, or Chrome OS — and you can view and send your phone’s text messages from there. Browser extensions are also available. The AirDroid app for Android also does this and works well.
Like Messages on a Mac, this works entirely through your phone — your computer just becomes a gateway to your phone, which does the hard work of actually sending and receiving those text messages.
This won’t cost you anything extra. If your cellular carrier charges you for text messages, you’ll have to pay their fee.
But MightyText guides you through the process— which involves changing some security settings in Internet Explorer or installing a third-party add-on in Firefox—and it’s a one-time thing.
MightyText’s Web app is slick, and it lets you choose between a “classic view” and a “power view.” The classic view uses a layout similar to Microsoft Outlook, where you see information about the sender in the first column and then message details in the next column. The power view, meanwhile, displays phone-sized fields on your computer screen that display recent text messages in conversation form. The power view lets you see more messages at once (it fit eight on my screen), while the classic view gives you more space for viewing message details. Switching between them is easy.
To send a message, you click the new message button, and a small window for composing it pops up in the lower right corner of the screen, reminiscent of how Google’s Gmail works. And, much like Gmail, MightyText also puts a message composition window at the bottom of the conversations you view, making it easy to send a reply message.
MightyText lets you mark favorite messages, browse through contacts, and easily adjust the settings (which include whether pressing enter should or should not send your messages and whether you want to get pop ups to notify you of new messages and calls). It also displays your phone’s battery life and notifies you of incoming and missed calls via pop-ups.
MightyText is slick, seamless, and—best of all—free. It’s my desktop app of choice for my Android phone.
Note: The Download button takes you to the vendor’s site, where you can download the latest version of the software.

Messages for iPhones – Mac Only: How to send text messages from pc to phone
If you have both an iPhone and a Mac, Apple makes this possible. You need both — there’s no way to do this with an iPhone and a Windows PC. The built-in SMS-message-sending feature on a Mac only works if you partner it with an iPhone, too — not if you have an Android phone.
This is part of the “Continuity” feature added in Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite. You’ll need to enable it on your iPhone by opening the Settings app, tapping Messages, and activating Text Message Forwarding to your Mac. It should then work automatically if you’re using the same Apple ID to log into both your iPhone and your Mac. Open the Messages app on your Mac and you’ll see a synced history of text messages from your iPhone, too. You can reply from your Mac or send entirely new messages from the Messages app. Those text messages will be synced to your iPhone, too.
This doesn’t cost anything extra — it just uses your iPhone’s text-messaging service. If your cellular carrier charges you for texts, you’ll have to pay that fee for the messages you send.
Google Voice – US Only
Google Voice is still around, but it’s also still only available to people based in the USA. If you are based in the USA, you can sign up for Google Voice for free. Google Voice gives you a new phone number, which you could use as your primary phone number if you like — although it’s unclear how long Google Voice will continue to be a service supported by Google.
Sign into the Google Voice website and you can send and receive text messages at that phone number. You can also have calls and text messages sent to that phone number be automatically forwarded to your primary phone number.
Sending text messages and placing phone calls to numbers in the US and Canada is completely free with Google Voice. You’ll have to pay Google to send text messages elsewhere.
Skype: How to send text messages from pc to phone
Skype offers the ability to send text messages from the Skype desktop app. Unlike Google Voice, this is available worldwide. However, Microsoft does charge for this service, so you’ll have to pay to send text messages from Skype.
Pay for credit and you can send and receive text messages directly from Skype. However, these won’t sync with the text-message app on your smartphone. People won’t be able to respond directly to these messages, but you can set up sender ID to have the messages displayed as coming from your mobile number. if you do, people who respond will be texting you on your phone — but those messages won’t appear in the Skype app for desktop.

Misplace or break your phone? No cell signal? Have no fear: You can still text away with a computer via Wi-Fi.

How to enable SMS text messaging through Continuity on iPad and Mac
To enable SMS relay across your devices, you need to have an iPhone with iOS 8.1 and an active carrier plan. Any iPads running iOS 8.1 and any Mac that supports Yosemite will be able to receive and respond to SMS messages through Continuity.
To begin, make sure you are signed in using the same Apple ID across all devices. On iPhone go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive to check which Apple ID is being used. Make sure both your phone number and Apple ID email address are checked.
On iPad, also go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive to be sure the same Apple ID is being used and your phone number and Apple ID email are checked.
On your Mac, open the Messages Application and navigate in the menu bar to Messages > Preferences.
Under the Accounts section, double check that the same Apple ID across devices is being used here. Under You can be reached for messages at: be sure the same phone number and email address are checked. Also, from the Start new conversations from: dropdown box, choose your phone number.
Return to your iPhone and go to Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding.
Here you will see a list of devices using the same Apple ID. To enable a device for SMS relay, tap the slider to ON (green position).
Each time you enable a device, a four digit code will appear on that device’s screen. You’ll be asked to enter that code on your iPhone to verify.
Once the device has been added successfully, you will see a confirmation message on your iPhone’s screen.
Enable all the devices you want to receive SMS and MMS messages here and you’re done! SMS relay doesn’t require Wi-Fi or bluetooth to be enabled, but if you experience problems during setup or use, try enabling them temporarily.
How to Make Calls, Send and Receive SMS From Your Computer Using an Android Phone
If you’re using a Mac and an iPhone that’s a great feature to have, but Android users need not feel left out either. AirDroid gives Android users most of Continuity’s features and allows some things that’ll make Apple users jealous.
Continuity also has a feature called Handoff, which allows you to pick up where you left off with apps. Whether it’s finishing an incomplete message on Mail or a document in Pages, these automatically sync across Apple devices with Handoff. Third-party apps such as Google Chrome also support this feature, but this is only available if developers choose to add it.

|3. The app will ask you to create an account, but it is not needed. Just tap the tiny Sign in later button at the bottom.

9. On AirDroid on your Android phone, tap the QR code image next to the URL. This will open the camera.
You can also initiate a call using AirDroid on your PC, but the call isn’t shared with your computer. The PC is only useful as a phone dialer.
1. Click the phone icon at the top of the page, next to the search bar on web.airdroid.com.
2. Dial the number in the keypad. As you start typing the number, a list of contacts with similar numbers will show up on the right. So you can also click the contact you want to call.
3. Click the blue Call button. Now you will have to switch to your Android phone to speak to the person. This is an unfortunate limitation and we suggest that you use a Bluetooth headset paired with your phone as a workaround.
4. AirDroid doesn’t let you receive calls via the computer either, but you can reject calls with a text message. When someone calls, you will see a pop-up in the browser window. Click Reject to disconnect the call or Reject with message to send a text message to the caller.
Enable SMS Text Message Support in Mac OS X Messages App- Texting app for mac
Setting up SMS Relay is pretty easy but it requires a particular set of software and hardware requirements to work. First, the Mac must be running OS X 10.10 or newer, Messages must be configured on that Mac, there must be a nearby iPhone with iOS 8.1 or newer using the same iCloud ID as the Mac, and the texting feature must be enabled on the iPhone and confirmed on the Mac through Messages app.
Sms from computer

2. From the Mac, open the Messages app if you haven’t done so already
3. From the iPhone, open Settings app, go to “Messages” and then go to “Text Message Forwarding”
4. From the iPhone Text Message settings, locate the name of the Mac you want to enable send/receive SMS Text Message support for and toggle the switch next to the Mac name to the ON position (in this example it’s called Yosemite Air)
5. From the Mac, wait for a popup to appear that will say something like “To send and receive your iPhone text messages from (phone number) on this Mac, enter the code below on your iPhone”
6. From the iPhone, enter the six digit numerical code shown on the Mac screen exactly, then tap on “Allow”
7. The Mac will now verify the iPhone and Mac are authorized to communicate and send SMS texts through one another, and texting support will work in a moment
When finished, you can now both send text messages out from the Mac, and also receive text messages on your Mac in the Messages app.
Pinger Desktop App
The Pinger Desktop app is advertised as compatible with OS X 10.6, 10.7 or 10.8 and Windows 7. I’m running Windows 8 Pro and it has run perfectly for me.
The only gripe I have about the interface is the fact that it cannot be resized. As you can see, I’ve got quite a bit of whitespace at the bottom-half of the application and that can’t be pulled up. It does take up a good bit of screen real estate.
The blurred areas are personal texts. though I’ve left one visible so that you can see how the application functions. On the main screen, you’re shown all recent conversations and a small snippet of the last sent message from each. Clicking on a message will expand that conversation.
Once again, the interface is a little on the bulky side. From here, Pinger Desktop is no different from Skype or AIM. You can see that there is a skyscraper banner to the right of the text field, and that could be considered another con of the application. However, Pinger Desktop is completely free and I don’t mind it at all. These guys have to make money one way or another and, as I do believe this is one of the only applications of its kind, it’s worth it to endure the ads.
The options are pretty limited in Pinger Desktop, but there aren’t many that I can imagine should be available for an application like this.
The only real additional feature here is one that allows you to set a text signature. Please, if you respect texting etiquette at all, don’t do that. Save it for your emails.
Pinger Desktop will completely synchronize with the web interface and the iOS or Android app. It’s really great that they offer so many different ways to use their product. I’ve been waiting for them to drop a desktop application for a long time now and I can say that I am very impressed and pleased with it. Pinger Desktop docks right to your system tray and you get notifications immediately when a new text comes in. It’s just better and faster than the web interface, if you ask me.

If you are anywhere but in Australia, unfortunately this service will not work for you. But if you are, Yakedi is absolutely the BEST free site to send SMS messages to Australian and New Zealand users. I have been using this site for years now. When I first joined, they offered unlimited free SMS messages. Unfortunately, they reduced it down to 10, now it is a steady 3 per day.
- You get the full 160 character for each SMS you send
- The messages come from your phone number and not someone else’s
- You have a contact list so you can select contacts
- Their is no advertisements in SMS messages. However, you do have the otion to include advertisements in your messages
- Since I have been using this service, they have not sent spam to my mobile phone, or to the people I send the text messages to
- The website has a nice, clean, professional design
- Ads are chosen based on surveys of your interest, so you know the ads are targeted towards you
- Ads are from known corporations (could be a pro or a con)
- All messages are kept in your message log so you can keep track of what you have sent (and how much money you have saved)
- You have the ability to earn more free text messages through competitions and email promotions
- You can change your mobile number anytime
- SMS messages take roughly 5 seconds to receive
GizmoSMS is great if you want to send a message or a note to someone who may be overseas. It is quick and easy. If you want a bit more features, you should have a look at.
A friend referred me to this program, however, it is not as good as Yakedi as you will see why in the pros and cons.
- Contains an phone book
- Messages come from your number
- SMS messages take roughly 5 seconds to receive
- Contains a number of other services
- You can schedule your SMS messages
- Provides a number of ways to send free text messages to cell phones such as through the web, email and allows you to turn English text into SMS slang
- You have to do a one minute survey before you can start using the service, which gives you 5 free sms messages
- SMS may contain ads
- If your email has a “˜.’ in it, it won’t allow you to sign up
- You only get 136 characters, which means the rest are advertisements (Free sms message by SMSPup.com)
- Unless you want your email inbox to increase, with surveys and advertisments, don’t sign up with an email address you regularly use.
Unless you want to do surveys all the time, SPSPup is OK. It still can’t beat Yakedi.
SMSFun not only allows you to send free SMS messages but you also join part of a community. You have access to forums, User Profiles and Useful Tools such as number lookups.
- You can send SMS messages from email
- Allows you to look up premium numbers to see what they are
- A community based service, which allows profiles
- Has premium SMS services
- If you need more SMS messages, you can upgrade to a Gold Subscription for $2 per week which allows you access to more features on the website
- A lot of ads, and a few raunchy user pictures
- Signup process is a bit lengthy
- Have to earn free SMS messages
- You may want to stay away from Premium SMS services that SMSFun offers
If you just want to send free SMS messages without all the other features that SMS fun offers, then I would go with Yakedi or SMSPup. Nevertheless, if you want to join part of a community, fill out surveys and earn free text messages that way, you can’t go past this website.
Text4Free allows you to send free SMS messages to most countries world-wide. The only downside is that you may have to know your recipient’s cell phone provider, otherwise recipients may be charged.
A Few Others
Web2msg – You do not need to register and you get 140 characters. This service is only for Australian users, but it is a quick and free way to send a free text message to a mate.
SendSMSNow – You can send a free SMS to selected countries only. Registration is now free.
FreebieSMS – You need to register your number and your friends number and email address to be able to send a free SMS message.
Mobik – I have not had any experience with them. Maybe you have and you can tell us a bit about them?
If you want to set up your own SMS website service, then you should have a look at Clickatell. They allow you to develop and integrate your own SMS service on your website. If that is not your thing, you can download a desktop application to send cheap SMS messages world-wide.
