In the new version of iOS, Apple redetected the settings menu and hid the auto brightness option. Lifkhaker tells where to find it and how to turn it off.
The Auto Brightness function allows the iPhone and iPad to automatically control the brightness of the display using an ambient light sensor. In the dark, the brightness decreases, and when it leaves the sun it increases. This saves battery power. Some users prefer to turn off auto brightness. Not finding the right toggle switch in iOS 11 , many thought that Apple removed it.
Not really. The function is still available in the system, but the company moved it from the “Screen and brightness” section to universal access settings. Here’s how to get to it:
1. Open the system settings and go to the “General” → “Universal access” section.
2. Open the “Display Adaptation” item.
3. Find the “Auto Brightness” tumbler and turn it on or off.
The tip next to the toggle switch warns of a quick discharge of the battery after the function is turned on. This is only true for cases where a high brightness value is set, which never changes.
If you keep the brightness slider around half the scale and adjust it to the situation in one direction or another, you can even extend the battery life of the smartphone a little.
How to set the display brightness to a super low level
But first let’s immediately attach this function to the triple click of the button “Home”. Open “Settings” and go to “General” → “Universal access” → “Keyboard shortcuts”. Here, select the “Zoom” item and click the “Back” button.
Now scroll the screen to the very top and select the “Zoom” section. Turn on the same name toggle switch and – attention – three times tap the screen with three fingers. On the pop-up zoom control panel, make sure that the bottom slider is in the far left position. After that, click “Select Filter” and select “Weak Light” – the screen will instantly darken.
Double-tap the screen outside the control panel to hide it. Now open the Control Point and set the brightness slider to the far left – this is the lowest level of the screen’s glow, which is poorly visible even in a very dark room.
Vary the brightness of the screen in “dark mode” as you like. When you want to go back to the previous screen mode, it’s easy to do it by clicking on the “Home” button three times.
