First of all, make sure you have Find My iPhone enabled. Tap into your Settings app, swipe down to iCloud and — if you’re logged in — swipe down to Find My iPhone. Be sure to toggle Find my iPhone to ON with a tap.. The new owner would probably just remove your SIM card and put in his or her own and no one would be the wiser. But with smartphones, this situation presents a larger set of problems.

For starters, you will lose all your precious data: music, photos, apps and contacts. Getting a new phone would mean you have to start recollecting all these items from scratch. If hearing that gives you a headache, let me remind you that the person who has located your iPhone will also have access to all your online accounts: social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, personal emails — and if you are one of the many people who do their banking online, better change those passwords quick. In any case, identity theft has been made easier these days since your smartphone now carries your online identityCan you track an iPhone if its off: How to find your iPhone if its offlineHow to use Find my iPhone to track down a lost or stolen iPadHow to find your iPhone if its offline

When you check for your iPhone’s last location on iCloud.com, your device will either have a green dot or a gray dot. “A gray dot means it’s offline,” Apple says. “If the device was recently online, you’ll also see the time it was last located. If the device has been offline for over 24 hours, you’ll see ‘Offline.’”

While it is almost impossible to prevent you from dropping or misplacing your iPhone, it is possible to reduce the effects (and pain) of losing your iPhone and the contents within forever. Here are 10 useful apps

    1. Before you lose the iPhone you need to turn on a new Find My iPhone feature.
    2. When you set up the iPhone 6s or a new iPhone with iOS 9 Find My iPhone is on by default, but this handy feature is not.
    3. Go to Settings -> iCloud -> Find My iPhone. Make sure the main option is turned on.
    4. This is what allows you to use another iPhone or device to track down a lost or stolen iPhone.
    5. Tap on Find My iPhone and then on the next screen toggle Send Last Location to On.
    6. This will force the iPhone to send it’s location to Apple right before the battery dies. It needs a connection, so if it is in airplane mode this is not going to help, but in most cases a lost iPhone with a dead battery isn’t going to be in airplane mode.
    7. A stolen iPhone may already be in airplane mode to prevent you from tracking it.

    Airdrop not working on iPhone

If your iPhone, iPad, or Mac won’t show up for AirDrop, here are some fixes you can try!

#1: Airdrop not working on iPhone. Adjust AirDrop

      1. Swipe up from the bottom of your screen to open Control Center.
      2. Tap AirDrop.
      3. Choose one of these options: Off: Turns off AirDrop. Contacts Only: Only your contacts can see your device. Everyone: All nearby iOS devices using AirDrop can see your device.
    1. Tap Off then repeat the process and tap On again to toggle it.

If that worked, awesome. You’re good to go. If not, keep reading.

#2: Airdrop not working on iPhone. Match the Mac

If you’re trying to use AirDrop from an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad to your Mac, but your Mac isn’t showing up, here’s something else to try:

    1. Launch Finder on your Mac.
    2. Click on AirDrop in the sidebar.

That puts your Mac in an AirDrop-ready state as well and can help in detection. If it doesn’t, keep reading!

#3: Airdrop not working on iPhone. Toggle radios

    1. Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen to bring up Control Center.
    2. Tap the Bluetooth button to turn BT off, Wi-Fi to turn wireless on and off.
    3. Tap the Bluetooth button and Wi-Fi button again to turn BT and wireless back on.

Alternatively, you can perform the same steps but tap the Airplane Mode button to toggle all radios off and then back on at once.

Once you’re done, try connecting again. If it works, great. If not, keep reading.

#4: Airdrop not working on iPhone. Hard reset

Reset iPhone. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. You can reset the word dictionary, network settings, home screen layout, and location warnings. You can also erase all of your content and settings.

If it works, you’re good. If not, go on to the next step.

#5: Airdrop not working on iPhone. Update

Plug your device into power and connect to the Internet with Wi-Fi. Tap Settings > General > Software Update. Tap Download and Install. If a message asks to temporarily remove apps because iOS needs more space for the update, tap Continue or Cancel.

Once you’re done updating, try to use AirDrop again. If it works, awesome. If not, there’s even more to try

#6: Airdrop not working on iPhone. Reset networks

Reset your Network Settings. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset NetworkSettings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you’ve used before.

Once this is complete, you’ll have to reconnect to every Wi-Fi and Bluetooth device you own or use; once you’re done, check AirDrop again. If it works, it was all worth it. If not, let’s keep going.

#7: Airdrop not working on iPhone. Contact Apple

Sometimes a problem really is a problem. Like any electronics, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi radios and the various connections to them can have problems.

Did you enable Find My iPhone on the iPod Touch before it was stolen?

    https://www.apple.com/icloud/find-my-iphone.html

You cannot set up that after it is lost but if it was already active you can enable the missing mode & hope that it goes online. It will report it’s location or lock if you enable those in the Find my iPhone app (or at iCloud.com).

If the activation lock was enabled via ‘Find my iPhone’ the device will be locked to your Apple ID & they need your password to use it…

Find My iPhone Activation Lock – Apple Support

Obviously the device need to talk to Apple’s servers to know that it is ‘lost’, so it may take a while if the internet is deactivated and the device is locked with a password.

    Good luck.
